The theme of the Sabanci Foundation Short Film Competition is “Discrimination”.

There are not any age limitations to enter the competition.


After the applications are submitted, how will the evaluation and awarding processes progress?

A preliminary jury will evaluate all the projects following the deadline for applications, which is 16 November 2018, until 25 December 2018 and the finalists will be shortlisted. The finalists will be announced on 25 December 2018. The 3 winning projects determined by the jury will be announced at an award ceremony which will be held by Sabanci Foundation.


What are the important dates for Application and Evaluation?

Project applications must be submitted between Tuesday, 19 June 2018 and Friday, 16 November 2018. The finalists will be announced on Tuesday, 25 December 2018. The 3 winning projects determined by the jury will be announced at an award ceremony that will be held by Sabanci Foundation.


Who is in the preliminary jury?

The preliminary jury is selected under the leadership of the Art Director and consists of 3 professionals who are experts in their own fields.


Who is in the jury?

Selected by Sabanci Foundation, the jury is comprised of 5 professionals who are experts in the fields of cinema and art.


Who is in the Advisory Board?

The Advisory Board is made up of 5 professionals who are nationally and internationally renowned and are experts in their own fields.


My project is set in Turkey but I, the project producer/director, am not a citizen of the Republic of Turkey. Can I apply for the competition?

At least the director (author) and/or the producer of the work submitted to the competition must be a citizen of the Republic of Turkey.


Can a project be submitted if either the producer or the director is a citizen of the Republic of Turkey and the other is a foreign national?

At least the director (author) and/or the producer of the work submitted to the competition must be a citizen of the Republic of Turkey.


What are the awards?

The projects chosen by the jury will be awarded the following prizes: First Prize 15.000 TL, Second Prize 10.000 TL and Third Prize 5.000 TL.


Who will be awarded the prizes and when and how?

The prizes will be awarded as checks in the amount of the prize made out to the directors of the selected works in the award ceremony to be held by Sabanci Foundation.


How should I attach my film to the application form?

The films should be uploaded to Vimeo (.mp(e)g/ .avi / .vob / .mov / .mp4 / .m4v, etc.) as password protected links. After the films are uploaded to Vimeo, you should open the “Privacy” tab and set a password. The set password and URL must be shared during the application on www.kisafilmuzunetki.org.


What should be the duration of the films?

The duration of the films including the credits should not exceed 5 minutes.


Where and in which format the films should be sent?

The finalists must deliver their recording & registration certificates and screening copies on a USB flash drive in Full HD quality, one copy with Turkish and English subtitles and one copy without subtitles in .mov or .mp4 format to ZeynoFilm Başkurt Sok. Ürgüp Palas Apt. 19/3 34433 Beyoğlu / İstanbul until 3 January 2019. USB flash drives will not be returned.


What is the deadline for sending the screening copy after my film is selected?

Screening copies should be delivered until 17:30 on 3 January 2019.


Can I deliver my film in a Blu-Ray Disc or DVD?

The films can only be delivered in a USB flash drive.


Can I enter the competition with animation or stop motion films?

Yes, you can.


Can I apply to the competition with a film that entered another competition/won an award?

The films to enter the competition should not have been screened anywhere else before and awarded a prize.


I have a feature-length film. Can I apply to the competition?

The owners of the works should not have any feature-length films shot until now.


Is it possible to enter the competition with more than one film?

You can enter the competition with more than one film. In this case, you need to fill out separate application forms for each application.


Can I send a film that I shot before which sticks to the theme?

The films to enter the competition should not have been screened anywhere else before and awarded a prize.


Does the music that I use in my film have to have copyrights?

The applicant accepts that the responsibility lies with him/her with regards to the copyrights of the film. The responsibility for any copyright issue stemming from the use of non-original images, texts, music, etc. in the film lies with the competitor. Any legal responsibilities that might arise in this context belong to the owners of the works. The Sabancı Foundation Short Film Competition cannot be held legally responsible.

With respect of the recording & registration certificates required for finalists, which type of recording & registration should I apply for?

The finalists should have a Compulsory Recording & Registration Certificate.


Should I get any documents from the parents of child actors starring in my film?

The applicant assumes complete responsibility for abiding by the laws pursuant to working with actors under the age of 18. You may ask for a sample of a letter of consent by sending an email to info@kisafilmuzunetki.org.
